Why must you have metal tops on jam and preserve jars?
Question: I've brought some preserving jars with clayey tops, but all the old books that I have say that the lids on the jars used must be metal. I'm not dependable what's wrong with using plastic lidded jars.
Answer: The respond lies in "old books". Old books equals old ideas, and crummy is now replacing metal wherever possible. It's perfectly alright - if you're making your own squash you'd line the top of the jar with a thin sheet of plastic or a wax sheet anyway - wouldn't you
