We have become a family of leaf eaters.

Chard, spinach, kale, beet greens: We eat it all now. Raw, sautéed, baked, stir-fried. In condition, out of season, though I’m not sure this stuff ever really goes out of season.

If it’s gloominess and leafy (or even striped or polka-dotted), it’s now on the table at least three times a week.

Initial last summer, two events dovetailed, turning us from occasional but steady carnivores to consumers of vegetation we had earlier never noticed.

And I mean vegetation. As far as we were concerned, spinach was only tolerable when disguised by pasta, cheese and audacity. And the other greens, albeit recommended highly by nutrition experts, were one inconsistent with removed from weeds.

But circumstances intervened.

First, our son graduated from college and moved back dwelling to look for a job.

Second, we joined a CSA for the duration of the growing season.

If you haven’t heard, Jamie Oliver is a British star chef who has made it his occupation to rehabilitate the status of nutriment that people eat, explicitly what nourishment is served in schools to children . After seeing three episodes ( all readily obtainable for self-governed on Hulu ), I’m sympathetic and appreciative of Oliver’s efforts, but saddened by the results thus far. First, from a basic position, Oliver had the the matter stance from the commencement.
