The holidays are filled with wonderful things: Leave of absence trees,
lights, the sound of jingle bells, and the smell of gingerbread are
all a part of this without surcease of year.
I am so excited for Stella's second Christmas — especially to
see her reactions to all of the things Byzantine with Christmas. The
beautiful Christmas tree at my parents' house, the measure of
Christmas carols, the warm fire, the surprises that will fill the
living room on Christmas morning, all the luscious homemade cookies
and ... wait. Hold that thought.
Here comes the break weight gain. Here comes the New Year's
Resolution to lose the five to 10 pounds I gained from all those
delectable homemade treats. My bigger concern this year is what that
means for Stella. Being such an persuasible one and a half
year-old, with quite the appetite, this holiday will be spent
keeping those scrumptious treats out of her mouth more than putting them
in mine.
We have already had an inundation of treats in the house. Zoological
Cookies and Fig Newtons are about the only sweets you can find
during the regular year, but somehow candy canes,
marshmallow-filled chocolate Santas, homemade peanut frangible, and
fudge all have weaseled their way in disguised as gifts. With
Stella's curiosity, she wants to sampling each one of those.
